Getting Ready For The Show
Welcome to Rain City Supercars!
We are looking forward to the opportunity to get to know you in our upcoming interview! Here are a few notes on what to expect and how best to prepare for the show.
1. First off, relax!
This is not a high-pressure environment. Think of this as having a conversation with some friends over a few drinks. That's the premise this show was created on and it is why we know you will have a great time!
2. Eat a good, clean meal, and drink a good amount of water before the show.
Your body being comfortable means your audio quality is better, you sound more relaxed, and you won’t stutter as much. Avoid large amounts of caffeine the day of the show, it could lead to unknowingly sounding “jumpy” or nervous, even if you’re not!
3. Talk about what you're passionate about!
You are at your best when you are being your true self. Don’t worry about what you think people want to hear; talk about what you want to say. This isn’t a job interview; we just want you to be you and so does everyone else. And remember, we already think you’re awesome, that’s why we invited you.
4. Avoid adjusting the mic, playing with the mic cord, or moving around excessively.
We will help you get set up so you sound your best, but note that touching the mic while recording, especially while talking, will sound scratchy and cannot be edited in a clean way. Feel free to adjust it when you're not speaking. And please don’t hesitate to ask for us to make an adjustment at any time if the headset is uncomfortable.
5. Do NOT bring a lot of prepared notes.
If you have more than a few bullet points jotted down for reference, you have too much. Guests who bring excessive notes stutter, feel like they’re being “incomplete” in their thoughts, and often sound somewhat scripted vs being themselves. Trust us, we want you to be you and so does the audience! Just enjoy the drive.
6. Raise your hand if you ever want to stop the interview.
Every now and then someone will say something they immediately regret or think they shouldn’t have said. That’s OK! We won’t publish anything you don’t want us to share. Just raise your hand, we’ll stop, take a quick break, and reset! Seriously, this is supposed to be fun and not stressful. Also, if suddenly after the show you realize you shouldn't have said something due to sponsor conflict or worried you might hurt someone's feelings, let us know. We got your back and technology makes it easy for us to make edits if needed. We cannot make edits after the show is released.
7. Understand we do take creative privileges in editing.
We remove many, but not all, “umms”, “likes”, long pauses, background noises, coughs, and other sounds. In addition to that, we may also remove or rearrange sections of the discussion in an effort to reach the desirable length of content or to ensure we have a cohesive flow to the discussion. Sometimes we are having such a great time we simply get off topic and editing in this manner helps us to make sure our audience has a great time as a listener too.
We will NEVER make edits that could potentially change the meaning or intention of what you have said. We use editing as a tool to make you and us sound good, not as a censorship tool.
8. You are your own worst critic, we promise.
Seriously, we know you’re worried about how you sound. If you haven’t heard yourself recorded before you will probably be surprised even. But trust us, you sound great, and we won't let you sound bad. It's all in your head.
If you have any thoughts, comments, or are worried about anything at all, just let us know. Trust us, this is fun! Even our most nervous guests have a good time, and we know you will too.
